Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed to introduce TIN number mandatory for getting new electricity connection in this year’s budget.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, however, has opposed the decision. He said, “The low income group of the people will be harassed once the decision is implemented. The move will also incur financial loss and will become wastage of working hours.”In a letter written by State Minister Nasrul Hamid to AHM Mustafa Kamal, “You must be aware of the election manifesto of our government to provide electricity to every household. Already, 93 percent of people have been brought under electricity coverage. But, making TIN number and submitting the income tax return every year will be tough, harassing and wastage of time for the rural poor people and labourers. It will also incur financial loss to them.”
Nasrul Hamid also requested Finance Minister not to introduce the proposal of keeping TIN mandatory in getting new power connection through the letter.
