Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against DIG Mizanur Rahman and his three other relatives including his wife Sohelia Anar Ratna allegedly for gathering wealth beyond known source of income.
The ACC authorities also asked DIG Mizan to appear at its headquarters for quizzing on July 1 allegedly for paying TK 40 lakh in bribe to its suspended director Khandaker Enamul Bachhir.ACC deputy director (Public Relation) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the case-failing on Monday.
The anti-graft body filed the case against four for amassing wealth illegally.
The other accused are Mizan’s younger brother Mahbubur Rahman and nephew SI Mahmudul Hasan.
According to a report of the ACC, DIG Mizanur Rahman and his relatives amassed nearly Tk 4 crore beyond known source of income.
Following a marital scandal in January, 2018, Mizan was withdrawn from the post of additional commissioner at Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Among various allegations that surfaced against Mizan are forcibly marrying a 25-year-old woman on July 15, 2017 and picking up a female news presenter of a private television channel at gunpoint in December the same year.Earlier, DIG Mizan on this month, in a television interview, claimed that ACC director Enamul Bachhir took Tk 4 million in bribes from him promising that he would be dropped from the allegations.
An audio clip of mobile conversations between DIG Mizan and Enamul Bachhir was also aired on the television.
Following the allegation, the ACC authorities set up an inquiry committee and suspended Enamul Bachhir temporarily for leaking a probe report to Mizanur Rahman, who is accused of amassing illegal wealth.
But, Enamul Bachhir denied the allegation of taking bribe.
