Post-deprived BCL leaders to celebrate Eid at Raju sculpture

The 'post-deprived' faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) is continuing its sit-in programme on the Dhaka University campus.

On Monday, the faction of BCL leaders, who were deprived from posts and allegedly devalued in the organisation, was seen sitting at the base of Raju memorial sculpture on the campus.

They alleged that BCL central leaders are trying to save the controversial post-holders of the newly declared full-fledged central committee through not revealing their names.

Earlier, post-deprived BCL leaders began an indefinite sit-in on the campus protesting a fresh assault on them on May 20 early morning. They were allegedly assaulted by the followers of BCL General Secretary Golam Rabbani.  They, however, postponed their movement for a while.

But on 27 May, they resumed their demonstration protesting the decision of paying respects at the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhanmondi and threatened to go for tougher movement if their demands are not fulfilled.

Spokesperson of post-deprived BCL leaders Murad Haider  Tipu, also former deputy planning  secretary of BCL, said, “Each student has left the campus for their village home. Even beggars and floating people of the campus have joined their family to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their nearest and dearest ones. But we can’t go to our village homes this year despite intense desire.”

He also urged BCL central leaders to disclose the names of the controversial activists, who got posts in the committee and said, “Those, who assaulted us, must be punished and suspended from the organisation permanently.”

On June 1, Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that complication over BCL central committee will be addressed soon through.

Shahidullah Hall unit General Secretary, a participant of the programme, said, “We will continue our movement unless our demands are realised. If needed, we will celebrate the Eid at the base of Raju memorial sculpture on the campus this year.”

Former BCL Publicity Affairs Secretary Saif Babu, Deputy Publicity Affairs Secretary Nakibul Islam Sumon, Kabi Jasimuddin Hall unit General Secreaty Shahed Khan, Amar Ekushey Hall unit General Secretary Ahsan Pial were present in the sit-in programme.
