Barrister Rumeen Farhana, BNP nominated candidate for reserved women seat, was unofficially declared as Member of Parliament (MP) on Tuesday.
Election Commission (EC) joint secretary Md Abul Kashem came up with this declaration at EC secretariat of the capital.Md Abul Kashem, also Returning Officer (RO), said, “Tuesday was the last day for the withdrawal of the nomination paper. As Rumeen Farhana has not withdrawn it, she was unofficially elected as MP for the reserved seat of woman at the 11th national parliament.”
On May 20, Rumeen Farhana, assistant international affairs secretary of BNP, submitted her nomination paper to the (EC) after she was nominated by her party as BNP candidate for reserved women seat in the 11th parliament.
In the last Jatiya Sangsad polls, held on December 30, the Awami League (AL)-led Grand Alliance secured 288 seats — the AL 257 alone, the Jatiya Party 22 and others 9. Meanwhile, the BNP-led Jatiya Oikya Front got only eight seats.
According to the 11th parliamentary polls’ results, only one seat is reserved for BNP.
