President M Abdul Hamid on Wednesday morning left Dhaka for United Kingdom and Germany for health check-up and treatment of eyes.
A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited carrying the President took off Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport at 9:00am.President’s press secretary (PS) Joynul Abedin said, Abdul Hamid is scheduled to have his check-up at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London. After that he will go to Frankfurt in Germany.
“The President is expected to return home on May 26,” the PS added.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak, Foreign Minister AK Momen, Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Vatican to Bangladesh Archbishop George Kocherry, British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Chatterton Dickson, Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz, cabinet secretary, chiefs of the three services, prime minister’s principal secretary and inspector general of police (IGP) saw him off at the VVIP Lounge of the airport.
Earlier, the 75-year-old President Hamid conducted his health check-up there in July last year.
Abdul Hamid has been suffering from Glaucoma since long. He used to have his health check-up in Singapore when he was the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament).
But, after being president, he has been taking his health check-up and eye treatment from London.
