Bangabandhu’s birth centenary to be celebrated internationally

Bangladesh is planning to celebrate the 100th birthday of its founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman locally and internationally.

“We’ll use the local and international media to celebrate the occasion,” Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said on Sunday.

He is the convener of the media, publication and documentation sub-committee formed ahead of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary.

Mahmud was speaking at the first meeting of the sub-committee in Dhaka’s International Mother Language Institute.

He welcomed various proposals presented by the participants and urged them to submit the proposals in writing to the member secretary within five days.

The proposals include publishing special supplements in local newspapers, running special articles on Bangabandhu in internationally acclaimed newspapers and holding discussions at home and abroad on the nation’s independence hero.

Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebration national implementation committee chief National Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam, chief coordinator Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, publication sub-committee member secretary Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Bangabandhu Memorial Trust’s chief executive Mashura Hossain, and Dhaka University Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, among others, spoke at the programme.
