Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs minister Anisul Haq on Saturday said, government has started preparing a policy on online news portals and slapping registration obligation to bring them under accountability.
Anisul Haq came up with this disclosure while speaking as a chief guest at a symposium on ‘Fake News and Hate Speech: Causes and Consequences, How It Subverts Our Democratic System’,
Cosmos Foundation, the philanthropic wing of Cosmos Group, arranged the symposium.
The symposium was organised at Cosmos Centre in Dhaka.
“We are taking initiatives to make registration of all online news portals to bring them under accountability. Government is working to prepare a separate policy on online news portals” Anisul Haq said.
The program was presided over by Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, principal research fellow at Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) Singapore, while Enayetullah Khan, chairman of Cosmos Foundation gave the welcome speech.
