3 RU BCL men hurt in infighting

At least three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in infighting at Rajshahi University (RU) over cricket tournament on Friday evening.

The injured are Maruf and Asif, both are second year students of Public Administration Department, while Anik, a third year student of Economics Department of RU.

Anik is a follower of BCL RU unit general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu while Maruf and Asif are the supporters of RU BCL president Golam Kibria.

Sources said two groups of BCL one led by Anik and the other by Maruf and Asif locked into a scuffle at the university’s Sabas Bangladesh playground in the afternoon over a decision of umpire  at cricket match and injured three BCL men on the spot. Among them, Asif was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Maruf and Asif have been released after primary treatment. Following the incident, Anik along with his supporters beat up Maruf and Asif with cricket bats and stumps at Rojob’s Tea Stall beside the Shahidullah Arts Building in the evening.

Being informed, a group of 10-12 supporters of Maruf and Asif beat up Anik as the later was found walking alone at the university’s Zoha Chattar.
