Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed police to expedite investigation into all cases and submission of charge-sheets to contribute to quick settlement of the cases and reduce public suffering.
She made the directive to police high-ups at Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the capital on Tuesday, marking Police Week 2019.
Hundreds of thousands of cases are pending with courts and those remain unattended and uninvestigated for long causing a burden on the judiciary and public sufferings.
The police should be sincere to complete investigation into cases, submit reports and produce accused before the court timely to contribute to quick trial and settlement of the cases.
She also asked police officials to track militant activities, assess possibility of any attack and take preventive measure to foil it. She advised police officials to boost intelligence surveillance for the purpose.
The premier asked police to ensure that innocent people are not being harassed by them in any way. She ordered investigation into any violation of human rights by any member of law enforcing agencies and departmental action against such cop.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Jabed Patwary, Secretary of the Public Security Division of Home Ministry Mostafa Kamal Uddin and Additional IGP (admin) Mokhlesur Rahman spoke on the occasion.
Besides, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mian, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) (Highway) Atikul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Monirul Islam, Deputy Police Commissioner of Tejgaon Zone in Dhaka Biplab Kumar Sarkar and Rajbari Police Super Asma Siddika Mily were present.
