FBCCI for tech integration to build smart cities

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Tuesday suggested incorporating technology with the urban infrastructure to build smart cities.


The apex trade body also felt the need for adopting innovative technology in the planning and design of the urban development projects.


The FBCCI leaders made the observations at a roundtable on ‘Business Conceptualization of Smart Cities: Smart Solution to Urban Infrastructure and Traffic’ at Westin hotel in the capital. FBCCI and Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) jointly organised the event.


FBCCI Acting President Sheikh Fazle Fahim moderated the roundtable while State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Polok attended the program through video conferencing. The state minister thanked FBCCI for organising the roundtable and expressed hope that the discussion will offer innovative recommendations with regards to technological integrating into to urban infrastructure and traffic system.


Professor Dr Akter Mahmud, chairman of the Urban and Regional Planning Department of Jahangirnagar University, presented the keynote paper at the program. Dr Mahmud in his presentation highlighted the concepts and scopes of a smart city and Dhaka’s existing traffic infrastructure.


FBCCI Vice-President Md. Muntakim Ashraf and FNF Country Director Dr Najmul Hossain also spoke on the occasion.  


High officials from Dhaka Metropolitan Police, BUET, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Dhaka WASA and experts from different universities also presented their idea on smart cities at the discussion. Representatives from BASIS, Siemens, NEC and ZTE presented a video documentary on the smart city.


FBCCI in partnership with FNF is holding a series of events on trade, industry, ICT, etc.
