Chittagong port strike postponed

Prime mover owners and workers have postponed their strike in Chittagong Port until Oct 4 after Chittagong Metropolitan Police commissioner on Friday assured them of action against alleged harassment of workers.

The strikers decided to postpone the strike after a meeting with Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Iqbal Bahar at his residence on Friday morning.

An inter-ministry meeting will be held on October 4 with Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in the chair, to discuss with the strikers.

Earlier on September 26, the council called for a strike as they alleged that they have continuously a been harassed and fined without reason at load control centres at Daudkandi and Meghna Bridge areas on the Dhaka-Chittagong highways.
