‘Robber’ killed in B’baria ‘gunfight’

An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Tan Mandail area of Akhaura upazila in Brahmanbaria district early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam.

Quoting officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station Mosarof Hossain Tarafdar UNB said acting on a tip off that a gang was taking preparation for a robbery, a team of police conducted drive in the area.

However, sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire towards them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.

At one stage Saiful received bullet injuries and died on the spot.

Meanwhile two police members were also injured in the incident.

Police also recovered a pipe-gun and locally made sharp weapons from the spot.

Saiful was accused in five cases filed with the police station, added the OC.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
