Illegal govt and boneless EC kill country’s democracy

Terming tenth parliament elections on January 5 in 2014 as voter less polls, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia reiterated that ruling Awami League is running an illegal government.


The BNP chief made the comments while addressing a mass rally in front of party’s Nayapaltan headquarter marking January 5 as ‘Democracy Killing Day’ on Tuesday afternoon.


Slamming present election commission (EC) heavily Khaleda Zia further said the EC is backboneless who was serving ruling government’s order nakedly. She urged the chief election commissioner to quit from his post as he failed to discharge his duties.


Khaleda began her speech at around 4:15pm after she had joined the rally around 3:00pm.


The party leaders and activists of Dhaka city unit led by Standing Committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy started the rally at 2:00pm.


BNP arranged the programme to mark the second anniversary of the tenth parliament election on January 5, 2014 which they termed ‘Democracy Killing Day’.


This is her first public rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office in four years.


Earlier last night, Khaleda Zia sat with her party’s senior members at her Gulshan office to discuss the issues she would address in her speech today.


On Monday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police granted conditional permission to the BNP to hold the rally.
