Chinese company KPST will invest US$7.01 million to establish its second manufacturing facility in BEPZA Economic Zone-1 (EZ-1) in Mirsharai, Chattogram, creating around 200 jobs for Bangladeshis.
The company signed a land lease agreement with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) at its Dhaka complex on Wednesday to establish KPST New Material (BD) Co Ltd.
The factory will manufacture footwear accessories, bag and luggage components, paper products, printed materials and related items on a 7,200-square-metre plot.
It will have an annual production capacity of 11 million pairs of footwear accessories, 24,000 cubic metres of foam, 200,000 cutting boards and 250,000 cutting dies and moulds. Products will be supplied to footwear manufacturers in India and Cambodia, as well as export-oriented footwear factories in Bangladesh.
BEPZA Member (Investment Promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain and KPST New Material (BD) Co Ltd Director Zhang Youguo signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. BEPZA Executive Chairman Maj Gen Mohammad Moazzem Hossain and senior officials witnessed the signing.
Zhang said the company had decided to establish the second factory in response to rising demand and increased orders for products from its first facility. He said KPST chose BEPZA for the expansion after assessing the overall investment environment, expressing optimism that the new venture would create further business opportunities. He also thanked BEPZA for its continued support.
The investment further expands KPST’s manufacturing operations in Bangladesh. Its affiliated company, KPST Shoes (BD) Co Ltd, was the first enterprise to begin export operations from BEPZA EZ-1, starting production in November 2023.
BEPZA welcomed the investment, saying it reflected the investor’s continued confidence in the authority and its services.
As of September 2026, BEPZA EZ-1 had 14 operational enterprises, with another 33 at the implementation stage. The zone had attracted $98.83 million in investment, recorded cumulative exports of $68.29 million and generated employment for 4,428 Bangladeshis.
