The two-day event was thronged by a bunch of students, photographers, filmmakers, artists, performers, media professionals and content creators from across Bangladesh. The department of Mass Communication and Journalism organised the carnival with the coordination of three of its student-led organisations namely BUP Media and Communication Club (MCC), BUP Photography Society (BUPPS) and BUP Film Club (BUPFC).
Brigadier General Mohammad Akser Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Security & Strategic Studies of BUP, attended the inaugural ceremony of the event as chief guest with Lieutenant Colonel Mahmud Hasan Tariq, Chairman of the department of Mass Communication and Journalism, in attendance. Moreover, faculty members, guests, participating creators, students, alumni and members of the organising teams and others were also present on the occasion. Representatives of the three clubs spoke at the opening session. Each club then presented a showcase of its activities and achievements.
The carnival featured three segments navigated by the three clubs. The first was Sfuron 6.0 by BUPPS. It presented selected works from more than 2,000 submissions by students across Bangladesh. The exhibition featured camera photography, mobile photography, art and cartoons. After jury evaluation, the selected works were professionally printed and framed. A photography workshop was also held.
Addressing the gathering, Mahmud Hasan Tariq spoke about the importance of turning ideas into reality and creating opportunities for young talent. He ended his address by saying, "Let our stories shine as bright as the sun, and let the festivities begin."
In the meantime, lecturer Hasib Shah Aman, moderator of BUPPS, highlighted the role of photography in shaping how people observe and understand the world. MD Ibrahim Hossain Niloy, President of BUPPS, thanked the participants, judges, faculty members, volunteers and BUPPS members whose efforts contributed to the sixth edition of Sfuron. The second part of the event was MediaComm Summit 2.0, organised by MCC. Three speakers from different areas of the media industry joined the panel and spoke about their professional journeys, challenges and experiences in the changing media landscape. The third segment of the carnival was BUP Film Fest 2026, organised by BUPFC. It featured cinema, performance and interactive activities.
The festival received more than 40 short films, 20 documentaries, 50 ad-making projects and 25 scripts from participants across Bangladesh. 30 cosplay participants and 110 Cine Quiz participants joined this part of the event. These segments gave participants a chance to engage with cinema beyond film screenings.
The top 15 short films, top 10 documentaries and top 18 ad-making projects were screened. A seminar on film and visual media was also held. OPPO, BMTF and Foodie supported the festival. The event came to an end bringing some creative voices together and giving young creators a chance to explore different areas of media and communication.
