A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Jerika Tasnim Disha on a fresh three-day remand for questioning in the murder case over the death of former Bangladesh Air Force officer Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Souri.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Manjurul
Islam passed the order after a hearing, said State Prosecutor Omar Faruk
Faruqui.
Disha, 19, a friend of Tahsif, was placed on
a four-day remand on 1 November following her arrest from her Kafrul residence
at around 1am that day.
On Wednesday, Investigation Officer Firoz
Uddin produced Disha before the court after completion of the remand and sought
a fresh seven-day remand for further interrogation.
According to the fresh remand petition, Disha
had provided some important information about the incident during
interrogation, which was being kept confidential and verified in the interest
of the investigation.
However, she allegedly tactfully avoided answering
several questions and remained silent, the petition stated, adding that the
information obtained from her needed to be cross-checked against the statement
of Dwip, another accused.
A review of Tahsif's mobile phone call
records also revealed that he had spoken to Disha several times, the petition
claimed. It added that investigators needed to determine whether there had been
any tensions in their relationship before the incident.
During the remand hearing, defence lawyers
Mohammad Iman Hossain, Abdur Rahman and others sought cancellation of the
remand and bail for the accused, which the prosecution opposed. After hearing
both sides, the court granted a fresh three-day remand for Disha.
Notably, Tahsif's junior friend Ahmed
Shahriar Reza Dwip, another suspect in the case, has been placed on remand
twice.
Tahsif went missing after leaving home on the
evening of 27 October in response to a call from Dwip. River Police recovered
his body from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River the following afternoon.
His father, KM Enayetul Karim, later filed a
murder case against unidentified persons with Uttarkhan Police Station in the
capital at 1:05am on 30 October. Police subsequently showed Dwip arrested in
connection with the case.
