Abhijeet Dipke, founder of India’s Cockroach Janata Party, had announced a programme to hoist the national flag at Central Park in New Delhi on Friday (16 October), where he was scheduled to gather with young supporters carrying the national flag. However, Delhi Police detained him before the programme could take place.

Within an hour of his detention, student leader Neha Bora was also detained.

The Hindu reported that Neha Bora was leading a march from Mandi House Circle towards Central Park with the national flag when police detained her.

Young supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party have been protesting for the past several days, demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

They have accused Gyanesh Kumar of removing tens of millions of names from electoral rolls to benefit the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The protesters alleged that in West Bengal alone, the names of seven million voters were removed from the electoral rolls ahead of the state assembly election and restored immediately after the election.
