Al Amin Hossen’s six-wicket haul went in vain as Bangladesh Under-19s suffered a 43-run defeat to Afghanistan Under-19s in the third youth One Day International in Al Amerat, Oman, on Wednesday, delaying their bid to seal the series.
The defeat came despite Al Amin’s impressive figures of 6-66, which helped bowl Afghanistan out for 237. Bangladesh had won the first match by 33 runs before clinching the second in a Super Over after the game ended in a tie, taking a 2-0 lead in the series. A victory in the third match would have secured the series for Bangladesh.
Chasing 238, Bangladesh appeared on course for victory, with a 107-run second-wicket stand followed by a 44-run partnership for the third wicket. After posting 304 in the previous match, the target looked well within their reach.
However, Abdullah Al Muhi’s 61 off 56 balls and Kawser Ahmed’s 64 off 81 were not enough to carry the side home.
Bangladesh lost their last eight wickets for just 37 runs and were bowled out for 194 in 38.2 overs. Afghanistan’s Imran Mohammadi claimed three wickets for 45 runs to help his side stay alive in the series.
