Maritime ports across the country have been advised to hoist Distant Cautionary Signal No 1 as a deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay moves westwards and is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm.

According to a special weather bulletin issued today, the deep depression was centred near latitude 15.0ø north and longitude 89.8ø east at midnight, approximately 830 kilometres south of Chattogram, 755 kilometres south of Cox's Bazar, 830 kilometres south of Mongla and 780 kilometres south of Payra.

The depression is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay on Monday before moving west-northwestwards.

It is forecast to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast of India by 28 October as a very severe cyclonic storm.

The maximum sustained wind speed near the centre of the deep depression is around 50 kilometres per hour, with gusts or squalls reaching 60 kilometres per hour.

The sea is expected to remain rough near the system's centre.

Meanwhile, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been advised to move closer to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

Authorities have urged those concerned to follow the latest weather bulletins and maritime warnings as the system develops over the Bay of Bengal.
