Avery Dennison has opened an automated warehouse at the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) in Savar, introducing digital inventory and logistics systems for its apparel and footwear operations in Bangladesh.
The 830-square-metre facility has seven automated guided vehicles (AGVs), connected packing software and a warehouse management system, with storage capacity for 25,000 cartons, according to a press release.
The company said the automated system will help reduce processing time and picking delays while improving inventory visibility as apparel manufacturers move towards shorter lead times and more customised orders.
The warehouse can handle inbound volumes up to five times higher than the previous operation, while outbound capacity is expected to double. Inventory density is projected to rise by 50%.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Executive Chairman Maj Gen Mohammad Moazzem Hossain and American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) President Syed Mohammad Kamal attended the opening ceremony on Monday.
Avery Dennison, a global materials science and digital identification solutions company, has operated in DEPZ since 2003. It supplies labels, embellishments, radio-frequency identification (RFID) and other identification solutions to apparel manufacturers and brands.
The new facility will support the company’s supply-chain operations serving factories in Bangladesh and global apparel markets.
