With the legal profession expanding rapidly into diverse fields such as international law, AI governance, and environmental justice, International Standard University (ISU) is preparing its law students not only for courtroom advocacy but also for leadership roles in both public and private sectors.
The Department of Law at ISU, established in 2024, is already making its mark by offering a dynamic Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme rooted in Outcome-Based Legal Education (OBE). According to department chairperson Advocate Rashed Ahmed, the programme is designed to develop critical thinkers and ethical professionals who are committed to justice and social responsibility.
Unlike traditional legal education models, ISU integrates mock trials, moot court competitions, legal debates, and public speaking sessions into its curriculum to give students practical experience early in their academic careers. Regular court visits and interactive seminars on contemporary legal issues further ensure that students are well-acquainted with real-world legal proceedings.
“Law is no longer confined to the courtroom,” Ahmed said. “Our graduates will be equipped to work as legal advisors, judicial officers, public prosecutors, NGO advocates, or even international barristers.”
The university is also setting itself apart with cutting-edge infrastructure. Its air-conditioned, CCTV-monitored campus, multimedia-enabled smart classrooms, and expert faculty—many with international experience—create a supportive environment for academic and professional development.
Beyond academics, ISU’s law programme aligns with broader national and global opportunities. In Bangladesh, law graduates can qualify for the Bar Council Enrolment Exam, enter the judiciary through the Bangladesh Judicial Service (BJS), or take on policymaking roles through the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS). Internationally, pathways to becoming a barrister in the UK or joining organisations like the UN are also within reach.
The leadership of ISU plays a pivotal role in fostering this forward-thinking approach. Under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Awal Khan and with strong support from the university’s Board of Trustees—chaired by Engineer AKM Mosharraf Hussain and Vice-Chairman Engineer Mohammad Atiqur Rahman of Standard Group—the institution is committed to academic excellence and societal impact. Treasurer HTM Quader Newaz further strengthens the academic vision through his educational insight and humanitarian values.
With its blend of theoretical grounding and practical training, ISU’s law programme is quickly emerging as one of the most promising platforms for aspiring legal professionals in Bangladesh.
