Illness is a difficult test in a person’s life. When our loved ones fall ill, we become worried, and we also wish for the recovery of anyone else we see suffering from illness. In Islam, visiting the sick, standing by them and praying for their recovery are highly meritorious acts.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would recite a beautiful supplication whenever he visited a sick person. The supplication is:
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاس، مُذهِبَ الباسِ، اشْفِ أنت الشافي، لا شافي إلا أنت، شفاءً لا يغادِرُ سَقَمًا
Meaning: “O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the suffering and grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healer except You. Grant a cure that leaves no illness behind.”
Hadith:
Narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Whenever the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) visited a sick person, he would recite this supplication. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 5742)
