Three things follow the deceased, but two return
A A

Anas (RA), a distinguished Companion of the Prophet, reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Three things follow a deceased person. Two return, while one remains with them. Their family and wealth return, while their deeds remain with them.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6514)

Lessons and Guidance

1. When a person dies, their family and wealth remain in this world. Therefore, earning wealth lawfully and spending it in righteous ways are more important than merely accumulating riches.

2. After death, a person must leave behind their family and material possessions. Only the deeds they performed during their worldly life remain with them.

3. People should not become so preoccupied with wealth and worldly success that they forget to prepare for the Hereafter. No worldly possessions will accompany them after death.

4. Although family members are close to a person, no one can perform another person's deeds on their behalf. Everyone should therefore strive to strengthen their faith, improve their worship and uphold good moral conduct.

5. There is no opportunity to perform deeds after death. It is therefore essential to repent while there is still time, observe prayers, restore the rights of others and devote oneself to righteous actions.

In essence, although people enjoy wealth and the company of loved ones in this world, only their deeds will remain with them after death. It is therefore wise to devote one's life not merely to accumulating wealth, but also to strengthening faith, performing good deeds and serving the welfare of others.
