When people pray to Almighty Allah, they do so with the hope that He will hear their pleas, fulfil their needs and accept their supplications. One of the important ways to seek acceptance of a prayer is to invoke Allah through His beautiful names and sublime attributes.
On one occasion, the Prophet Muhammad (PHUH) heard a man supplicating to Allah by affirming His oneness and self-sufficiency.
The Prophet then said that the man had invoked Allah by His greatest name, through which He responds when called upon and grants what is asked of Him.
The supplication reads:
Meaning: “O Allah, I ask You by my testimony that You are Allah; there is no deity worthy of worship except You. You are the One, the Self-Sufficient Master, who neither begets nor is begotten, and there is none comparable to You.” (Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 1493 and Jami' al-Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3475)
