Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) observed the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day 2026 with due solemnity and enthusiasm on Saturday, with an essay competition and a discussion meeting at the university’s old auditorium.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman
attended the programme as chief guest, while Director of Student Welfare
Professor Dr Mohammad Sharif Raihan chaired the event.
Treasurer Professor Dr Md Safiul Islam Afrad
attended as special guest. In his address, the vice-chancellor described 7
November as a significant chapter in Bangladesh’s national history, emphasising
its importance in safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty.
He said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the
architect of Bangladesh’s independence declaration, commander of Z Force and
sector commander during the Liberation War, had never been driven by an
ambition for power.
Rather, following his release through the united
efforts of soldiers and civilians on 7 November, he embraced the responsibility
entrusted to him as an opportunity to serve the nation and build an
independent, sovereign and dignified Bangladesh, he added.
Referring to the legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur
Rahman and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, the VC said their vision of
nation-building and public welfare was being carried forward by their worthy
successor, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, through various development
initiatives.
Highlighting the government's canal excavation, tree
plantation, Farmers' Card and agricultural development programmes, he said such
initiatives were contributing to economic progress and improving rural
livelihoods.
“Building a prosperous, self-reliant and dignified
Bangladesh is not the responsibility of the government alone, it is a collective
responsibility of every citizen,” he said, urging people from all walks of life
to contribute actively to national development.
He also called upon the younger generation to uphold
the country's history and heritage and dedicate their knowledge, integrity and
commitment to nation-building. Other speakers highlighted the historical
significance of 7 November, national unity, patriotism and the importance of
safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty.
Among those present were Director of Planning and
Development Professor Dr Md Abdul Baset Mia, Director of Research Professor Dr
Md Moshiul Islam, Proctor Professor Dr Mohammad Saiful Alam, Registrar Md
Abdullah Mridha, hall provosts, faculty members, students, officers and
employees.
The programme concluded with the vice-chancellor
distributing prizes among the winners of the essay competition, held in four
