A Dhaka court on Sunday framed charges against three people in the murder case of Jagannath University (JnU) student and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's university unit leader Jobayed Hossain, setting 9 December for the recording of witness testimony.
Acting Judge Mazharul Islam of the Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court framed the charges, said plaintiff's lawyer Eshtiyak Hossain Zipu.
The accused are Jobayed's student Barjis Shabnam Borsha, her friend Mahir Rahman and Mahir's friend Fardin Ahmed Aylan. All three are currently in jail and were produced before the court.
Jobayed was stabbed to death on 19 October 2025 after visiting Borsha's residence in the capital's Armanitola to give her private tuition.
Two days later, his elder brother, Enayet Hossain Shaikat, filed a murder case with Bangshal Police Station.
Police submitted a charge sheet on 30 June this year, accusing the three of involvement in the murder and describing it as the outcome of a love triangle.
According to the charge sheet, Borsha was romantically involved with both Jobayed and Mahir. It alleges that the three killed Jobayed out of fear that intimate photos and videos of Borsha and Jobayed might be leaked.
The charge sheet identifies Borsha and Mahir as the masterminds behind the killing, alleging that Mahir carried it out with Aylan's assistance. It also states that the murder was premeditated and planned nearly a month before it took place.
