The North South University Social Services Club (NSUSSC) organised Onushongo 2026 at Boyoshko Punorbashon Kendro in Monipur of Hotapara in Gazipur, bringing together volunteers and elderly residents for a day of companionship, entertainment and shared moments.
The annual initiative aimed to spread love, kindness and empathy among elderly people, particularly those living in old age homes, by creating an environment where they felt valued, respected and cared for.
The event brought together NSUSSC members, volunteers and senior citizens for a range of activities designed to create meaningful connections. Volunteers spent time with the residents through conversations, storytelling, games and cultural programmes.
Old age can be a particularly lonely period, making emotional support and companionship essential. Many elderly people living in care homes miss the warmth of family relationships and regular social interaction. Onushongo 2026 sought to address this by offering them opportunities to connect with others and enjoy moments of happiness.
The initiative also highlighted how small gestures can make a significant difference in someone's life. A friendly conversation, a smile or simply taking the time to listen can help ease loneliness and make elderly people feel appreciated and remembered.
For the volunteers, the event offered an opportunity to learn valuable lessons about humanity, patience, kindness and social responsibility. Spending time with the elderly helped them better understand the importance of empathy and caring for others.
Through Onushongo 2026, NSUSSC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting compassion and strengthening social bonds. The initiative went beyond a day of activities, conveying a simple but important message: everyone deserves love, respect and companionship, regardless of age or circumstances.
