Aevitas International School in Dhaka has hosted a two-day
international training programme on Jolly Phonics on 28–29 October, bringing
together around 70 elementary and primary teachers from 11 schools.
Coral George, an international Jolly Phonics trainer from
the United Kingdom, is conducting the training, which focuses on practical
techniques for teaching early reading and writing skills.
Participants who successfully complete the training will
receive certificates in line with the programme’s requirements.
According to a press release, Jolly Phonics is a systematic,
synthetic phonics-based approach that teaches children to recognise letter
sounds, blend sounds to read words and segment sounds to spell words. It uses
activities, actions and multisensory techniques to make early literacy learning
engaging and effective.
The initiative aims to strengthen teachers’ skills in early
literacy instruction and equip them with practical classroom strategies to
improve children’s foundational reading and writing abilities. It will also
provide an opportunity for teachers from different schools to exchange
experiences and teaching practices.
Shoriful Hoque, principal of Aevitas International School
and convener of the programme, is leading the initiative.
The programme reflects the growing importance of continuous
professional development and the use of internationally recognised teaching
methods to improve the quality of early-years and primary education in
Bangladesh.
Located in Aftabnagar, Dhaka, Aevitas International School said the initiative was part of its efforts to promote quality education, innovative teaching practices and professional development for educators.
