The online application process for the 54th Convocation of the University of Dhaka (DU) will begin at 8:00am on 1 November and continue until 11:59pm on 30 November.

Applicants must complete the process in four stages through the university’s designated website: https://convocation.du.ac.bd. While the first stage must be completed by 30 November, applicants must finalise their online payments by 11:59pm on 2 December.

Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, director of the university’s Public Relations Office, confirmed the information on Tuesday.

According to a university notification, graduates and medal recipients who meet the eligibility criteria must complete their applications and payments within the stipulated deadlines to participate in the convocation.

The university will hold its 54th Convocation at 11:00am on 26 January 2027. President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the university’s Chancellor, will preside over the ceremony, while Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has consented to attend as the guest of honour.

Prof Atsushi Sunami, president of Japan’s Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF), will deliver the convocation address and receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Prof Muhammad Harunur Rashid, a donor to one of the university’s trust funds, will also receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree. The university’s Syndicate approved the decisions following recommendations from the Academic Council.

Eligibility criteria

According to university records, graduates who earned their degrees and medal recipients whose examination results were published between 20 November 2022 and 30 November 2026 will be eligible to participate in the 54th Convocation.

The university will also include examination results published between 14 October 2022 and 18 November 2022 that could not be accommodated in the 53rd Convocation. Graduates covered by these results will therefore have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming ceremony.

The university authority has begun preparations to ensure that the convocation takes place in a smooth, orderly and festive atmosphere.

A meeting was recently held at the auditorium of Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam. Participants discussed the overall preparations, organisational responsibilities and measures required to ensure the successful completion of the ceremony.

Those attending included Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Abdus Salam, Treasurer Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Senate members Md Amanullah Aman, Khairul Kabir Khokon and AKM Fazlul Haque Milon.

Deans of various faculties, provosts of residential halls, department chairpersons, institute directors and heads of administrative offices also attended the meeting.

The university has formed an executive committee, a management committee and several subcommittees to oversee preparations and coordinate the various activities related to the convocation.
