The authorities of Islamic University Bangladesh (IU) in Kushtia have installed steel-framed structures bearing the ‘Kalima’ (the Islamic declaration of faith) at the main gate and the central mosque on the campus.

On Thursday, the installations were set up as part of an initiative to highlight the institution’s unique identity and foundational heritage.

University sources said the initiative aims to reflect the distinct characteristics of the institution, which was established to blend Islamic and general education.

Students welcomed the move, noting that it aligns with the original vision of the university, while also emphasising the need for ongoing maintenance.

Vice-Chancellor Prof AKM Motinur Rahman said, “Islamic University shares many similarities with other universities, but its specialised features set it apart.

“Late President Ziaur Rahman founded this institution on 22 November 1979 with the goal of integrating Islamic and general education. The ‘Kalima’ structures were installed at the main entrance and the central mosque to honour these distinct values and the university’s traditional identity,” he added.
