Vice-President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), China, Li Kaisheng paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam on Tuesday at the VC’s meeting room on the university campus.

During the meeting, they discussed expanding academic and research collaboration between the two institutions, particularly through faculty, researcher and student exchanges, joint research, Chinese language education and China-related studies.

Prof ABM Obaidul Islam said academic communication and cooperation between the University of Dhaka and Chinese universities and research institutions had increased significantly in recent years.

He stressed the need to institutionalise these growing ties further and make them more effective and sustainable.

Referring to his recent visits to China, the vice-chancellor said there was considerable scope for expanding exchange programmes for teachers, researchers and students between universities and research institutions in Bangladesh and China.

He said such programmes could facilitate the sharing of knowledge, research experience and academic expertise between the two countries.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of establishing a specialised centre at the University of Dhaka for Chinese language education and China-related studies.
