A “Career Hub” is set to be established at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia to enhance employability and career advancement opportunities for its students.
A primary discussion was held on Monday at the Vice-Chancellor’s
Office between the university administration and BRAC’s Skills Development
Programme (SDP).
The initiative, proposed under BRAC’s SDP, aims to provide
career guidance, skill enhancement, job preparation, and industry networking
opportunities for students. It was decided during the meeting that a final
Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) will be signed on 20 September.
IU Vice-Chancellor Prof AKM Motinur Rahman,
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Amtaz Hossain, and acting registrar Prof M Atiqur
Rahman attended the meeting. BRAC’s Skills Development Programme Manager Aliul
Azim represented the organisation.
The proposed Career Hub will serve as a one-stop support
centre for students. Its planned services include personality and skill
assessments, career counselling, curriculum vitae and cover letter drafting,
job application and interview preparation, language and digital skill
development, internship placement, higher education guidance, and entrepreneurship
support.
Additionally, it will facilitate employer networking through
“Know Your Employer” (KYE) sessions, career expos, recruitment drives,
industrial visits and mock interviews, alongside incorporating student mental
health and well-being initiatives.
Earlier, the university authorities formed a seven-member
committee to implement the bilateral agreement and memorandum between IU and
BRAC Centre.
The committee was headed by Prof Kazi Mostafa Arif from the
Department of Economics as the convener, with Prof Jahidul Islam from the
Department of Information and Communication Technology serving as the member
secretary.
