The University of Dhaka (DU) and Eminence Associates for Social Development (EASD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaborative research on mental health, with a particular focus on women before, during and after pregnancy.
The agreement was signed on Monday at the Treasurer’s Office of the University of Dhaka.
Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer of the University of Dhaka, and Md Shamim Hayder Talukder, Chief Executive Officer of Eminence Associates for Social Development, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Md Mehedi Hasan, Acting Chairman of DU’s Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, was also present at the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering will work with EASD on joint research initiatives to identify and screen mental health conditions among women during the pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and post-pregnancy periods.
The partnership will also focus on developing practical interventions, including teletherapy services for mothers receiving treatment at the outpatient and inpatient departments of the Institute of Child and Mother Health (ICMH).
The initiative will further explore opportunities for joint research, programme implementation and capacity building.
As part of the collaboration, DU and EASD will organise joint seminars, knowledge-sharing sessions and academic conferences to disseminate evidence-based findings and promote strategic cooperation among relevant stakeholders.
The two organisations will also share and publish research findings generated through their joint initiatives.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to a stronger evidence base for maternal mental health interventions and help improve access to mental health support for women and mothers.
