The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) has created more than 430 job opportunities across 31 Chinese institutions for Dhaka University students.

The career opportunities were offered during a day-long job fair titled “Sino-Bangla Day 2026”, organised at the Student-Teacher Centre (TSC) premises of Dhaka University on Monday.

Thousands of jobseekers attended the event, which ran from 10:30am to 5:00pm, and submitted their curriculum vitae at various institutional booths.

The event was jointly initiated by the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh and Dhaka University, and organised by DUCSU alongside the Confucius Institute. A total of 31 Chinese organisations from diverse sectors, including technology, participated in the fair.

Representatives initially received CVs from over 400 candidates, with eligible jobseekers set to be shortlisted and appointed in phases following interviews and recruitment screenings.

Alongside recruitment activities, the TSC premises saw a festive atmosphere as students engaged in cultural exchange programmes. Events included traditional Chinese lion dances, Tai Chi demonstrations, and musical performances featuring both Chinese and Bangladeshi songs.

Speaking at the event, DUCSU Vice President Shadik Kayem said that institutional failures by the government and universities to resolve youth unemployment prompted DUCSU to take direct initiative.

"We will move forward with such activities despite all adversities so that our students can acquire the qualifications needed to lead globally," he said.

Shadik highlighted that during a recent visit to China by a DUCSU delegation, leaders focused on bolstering people-to-people connections between Bangladeshi students, Chinese universities, student unions, and government and private organisations. Upon returning, DUCSU pitched the job fair proposal to the Chinese Embassy, which was subsequently implemented through mutual cooperation and the dedicated efforts of DUCSU's international secretary.

He added that a Chinese job fair of this magnitude had not taken place at the university since the independence of Bangladesh.

Participating students expressed enthusiasm regarding the initiative. Sumaiya Zafarin, a student applicant, noted that securing over 430 high-paying job openings in a challenging employment market represented a significant milestone for youth.

One of the organisers, DUCSU International Secretary Khan Jasim emphasised that the union's primary objective was to connect students directly with multinational and international organisations, promising similar initiatives in the future.
