The Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has submitted a memorandum to the Dhaka University administration, with four demands, including the immediate announcement of the election schedule for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU).

A delegation led by DU unit Chhatra Shibir President and DUCSU Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Muhiuddin Khan submitted the memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Wednesday evening.

The memorandum outlines four demands, including announcing the DUCSU election schedule immediately; organising free, fair, impartial, and participatory polls following the announced schedule; formulating a permanent election roadmap that guarantees regular DUCSU elections in the future; and ensuring the necessary administrative cooperation and institutional support to enable elected representatives to fulfil their duties.

The student leaders expressed concern that, although the incumbent DUCSU’s tenure has less than a month remaining, the university authorities have yet to outline a clear roadmap or timeline. They noted that this lack of action has created significant uncertainty among general students.

Describing DUCSU as a vital institutional structure, the leaders emphasised its role not only in developing student political leadership but also in advancing academic excellence, research opportunities, career development, housing, transportation, medical services, campus security, sports, and cultural affairs.

After submitting the memorandum, Muhiuddin said, “DUCSU elections are a normal and traditional process of the university.”

He added that when leaders inquired about the timeline, election procedures, and budget allocations, administrative officials admitted that no decisions had been finalised.

Muhiuddin noted that since administrative steps have remained stalled, the university has not submitted budget requests to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the upcoming election.

He criticised previous ruling political forces for attempting to keep DUCSU inactive to suppress student voices.

“We want a clear schedule and roadmap for the elections to be announced as soon as possible,” Muhiuddin added.
