The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) on Wednesday hosted a cultural programme titled "Great Journey, Shared Future" to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and commemorate the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March.
The event was jointly organised by ULAB, the Embassy of China in Bangladesh, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka at the ULAB campus in Dhaka.
The day-long celebration featured a photo and video exhibition, a book exhibition and displays highlighting China's rich cultural heritage, offering participants insights into the country's history, governance and civilisation.
Students also experienced traditional Chinese art forms, including Chinese calligraphy and paper-cutting, while enjoying performances showcasing Chinese culture.
The opening ceremony featured cultural performances by the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, including a recital on the traditional Chinese string instrument, the Guzheng.
Speaking at the event, Professor Shamsad Mortuza, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, said the celebration would further strengthen the friendship between Bangladesh and China by promoting educational cooperation, cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
The concluding session featured a keynote presentation titled "The Story of the Communist Party of China" by Li Shaopeng, Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh.
In his address, Li highlighted the historical contributions of the Communist Party of China, the significance of the Long March victory, China's development journey, its social and cultural identity, and the enduring friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and China.
Among the distinguished guests were Dr Yang Hui, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, and Huang Moukong, Second Secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh.
The event was also attended by members of the Chinese delegation, cultural performers, and senior ULAB officials, including Professor Jude William Genilo, Vice-Chancellor; Professor Milon Kumar Bhattacharya, Special Adviser to the Board of Trustees and Treasurer; Lt Col (Retd) Md Faizul Islam, Registrar; along with deans, department heads, faculty members, administrative officials and students.
