An anti-imperialism and anti-fascism theatre evening was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday night, organised by the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) as part of a broader cultural protest.
The event
took place at the Selim Al Deen Mukto Mancha, using theatrical performances to
highlight resistance against imperialism and fascism in the context of
contemporary political and social issues.
Speaking at
the event, JUCSU drama affairs secretary Ruhul Islam said, “The people of
Bangladesh would never accept subjugation. If anyone tries to impose the chains
of servitude upon us, we will rise again and again like Abu Sayed and Mugdho.
Through the July movement, imperialism and fascism have already been defeated.
If another fascism or foreign domination is attempted, artistic expression
through literature, music and theatre will continue unabated as a form of
resistance.”
JUCSU
general secretary Mazharul Islam added that the central theme of the staged
play illustrated how fascism undermines the justice system through nepotism and
arbitrary rule.
“Our
objective was to convey a clear message against fascism through this
performance,” he said, noting that the struggle against fascism, falsehood and
propaganda would persist across cultural, political and social spheres.
