Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Dhaka University unit has accused the university administration of neglecting its longstanding tradition of lighting and beautification during Victory Month (December), triggering dissatisfaction among students.
In a written statement signed by office secretary Mallik Wasi Uddin Tami on Wednesday evening, JCD said the absence of festive illumination and formal observances at key locations, including Kala Bhaban and Curzon Hall, reflects what it described as a “short-sighted” and “irresponsible” approach by the administration.
The organisation said Dhaka University — widely regarded as the birthplace of the country’s independence struggle and a centre of democratic movements — has always observed Victory Month with dignity and grandeur.
JCD also criticised a statement posted on social media by DUCSU Liberation War and Democratic Movement Affairs Secretary, Fatima Tasnim Juma, claiming it distorted the history of the Liberation War and undermined the spirit of democratic struggles, including the 2024 mass uprising.
JCD DU unit president Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahosh and general secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon urged the university administration to take responsibility and uphold the institution’s historical traditions during Victory Month.
