Twenty students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Tuesday were awarded the “Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) Scholarship”.

The scholarship is a flagship initiative of NEF, a Japanese non-governmental organisation focused on nature conservation in developing countries.

The scholarship handover ceremony for the 7th and 8th batches was held at the university’s council room.

JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan distributed the scholarship funds among the recipients and congratulated them on their achievement.

Speaking at the event, Prof Kamrul Ahsan said, “Many students face financial hardship in continuing their academic pursuits.” He urged that both merit and economic background be considered in scholarship selection.

JU Treasurer Prof Md Abdur Rab, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Mohammad Mafruhi Sattar, Proctor Prof AKM Rashidul Alam, and NEF-JU Convener Prof AHM Sa’dat Hossain were present at the event. Teachers and students from the Department of Environmental Sciences also attended the ceremony.
