Bangladesh got off to a disappointing start in the AFC U17 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2027 Qualifiers, suffering a 5-1 defeat against Syria in their opening Group C match in Ras Al-Khaimah today.
Syria took the lead in the 14th minute after Tarek Hossein brought down Ahmad Taha inside the box. Taha converted the resulting penalty to put his side ahead.
Bangladesh goalkeeper Alif Imtiage made a couple of important saves, but Syria doubled their lead through Qussi Al Salhani, who scored from the spot in the 40th minute. Aram Al Hammoud then added a third with a header late in the first half.
Bangladesh showed some fight after the break as substitute Bayzit Bostam pulled one back just three minutes into the second half.
However, Taha restored Syria's three-goal cushion with a superb finish in the 78th minute before substitute Abdulhadi Maghmoma completed the rout in stoppage time.
Syria will face Macau, China, on Wednesday, while Bangladesh will look to bounce back against Bhutan on Saturday.
