North South University (NSU) suffered a batting collapse against American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), managing just 146 runs in 20 overs in their ABG University Cup Cricket Group B clash at Anvir Cricket Stadium, ABG Sports City, Today.
On a batting-friendly surface, NSU's top order failed to make an impression as AIUB's bowlers shared the wickets to keep the opposition in check.
Openers Sattajit Barua and Rakayed Haider departed for nine off 10 balls and 12 off 13 deliveries respectively. Raiyan Shabab briefly counter-attacked with some impressive strokes, scoring 31 off 18 balls, but could not convert his start into a substantial innings.
Farjan Ahmed provided the main resistance with an aggressive 55 off 38 balls, featuring four fours and four sixes. However, he received little support from the other end as NSU struggled to build momentum.
AIUB's bowling attack remained disciplined, with every bowler claiming at least one wicket. Abdullah Al Toufiq led the attack with three wickets, while Yeasir Arafat and Mashrafe picked up two apiece.
AIUB now need 147 runs from 20 overs to secure victory.
The ABG University Cup, initiated by Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir, aims to bring university cricket under floodlights while promoting sportsmanship and competitive spirit among young students.
