Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam will take no further part in the Sylhet Test against West Indies after sustaining a left ankle injury while fielding during the visitors’ first innings.

The injury occurred in the 78th over on Friday when Shadman attempted to stop a boundary. His left ankle became stuck in the grass and twisted as he moved to reach the ball. He was later taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to hospital for a scan.

In a video message released by the BCB, national team physiotherapist Bayezidul Islam said Shadman was not fit to bat in the first innings and remained under observation.

“At this moment, he is not in a condition to bat in the first innings. We are monitoring him, and a scan has also been carried out. The initial assessment suggests that he has sustained an injury. We expect to receive the scan report tomorrow. After that, we will be able to provide details about the nature of the injury and the likely recovery period,” he said.

The extent of Shadman’s injury and his rehabilitation plan will be determined once the full scan report is available.
