DIU crush BRAC by 63 runs in ABG University Cup

Daffodil International University (DIU) cruised to a 63-run victory over BRAC University after posting a record-breaking 237-7 in 20 overs in their Group A clash of the ABG University Cup Cricket at Anvir Cricket Stadium, ABG Sports City, on Thursday.

Abdus Sameum Bashir led the batting charge with a blistering 61 off 35 balls, featuring six fours and three sixes, as DIU registered the highest total of the tournament so far.

Chasing a daunting target of 238, BRAC managed 174-8 in their allotted 20 overs. Jariful Alam fought back with a quickfire 53 off just 24 deliveries, but his effort was not enough to keep BRAC in the contest.

DIU's bowlers maintained control of the chase, with Shahdot Hossain and Pritom Chayatrjee claiming two wickets apiece to derail BRAC's hopes.

Earlier, DIU made a flying start after batting first. Opener Abir Hossen scored 27 off 16 balls before Kazi Arafat Zaman smashed 45 off just 19 deliveries to put the innings on course for a big total.

Bashir then took charge with his half-century, while Toymur Ahmed and Pritom Chayatrjee chipped in with valuable contributions to push DIU beyond the 230-run mark.

For BRAC, leg-spinner Fardin took two wickets but conceded 53 runs in his four overs. Nafis Alam was the most economical bowler, finishing with figures of 1-22 from four overs.
