South Africa have reclaimed the top position in the ICC Men's Test Team Rankings for the first time since January 2016, following their 2-1 series victory over Australia.
The Proteas secured the No. 1 spot after defeating Australia by 176 runs in the third and final Test at Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday. They now lead the rankings with 124 points, moving ahead of Australia, who dropped to second place with 122 points.
Captain Temba Bavuma described the achievement as a major milestone, expressing his pride in the team's progress.
“It's exceptional. That has been part of our ambition as a team,” Bavuma said. “This win is number one.”
South Africa had lost the opening Test but bounced back with consecutive victories to seal the series.
