Bangladesh suffered their second defeat in the Hero Asian Champions Trophy, losing 1-0 to Japan in Jalandhar on Thursday after their 13-0 thrashing by hosts India on Tuesday.
Japan scored the only goal in the 40th minute through Kuroda Kisho from a penalty corner. Bangladesh defended better than they had against India but failed to find an equaliser.
The match was also a milestone for Bangladesh hockey stalwart Russell Mahmud Jimmy, who made his 150th international appearance according to official International Hockey Federation (FIH) records.
Jimmy was honoured by the tournament organisers before the match to mark the achievement.
However, the official figure does not cover his entire career, as the FIH did not maintain detailed records of every international match in the past. According to Jimmy's own records and reliable statistics from Bangladesh, Thursday's match was his 208th international appearance.
Despite the defeat, Bangladesh's ability to restrict Japan to a single goal offered some encouragement following their heavy opening loss.
