West Indies Test captain Roston Chase says financial concerns have motivated the squad to perform even better as they seek to climb the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings and finish the campaign in fifth or sixth place.

West Indies are currently eighth with 30 points, but Chase is drawing confidence from their results in 2026. The team have won two, drawn one and lost one of their four Tests this year.

“We want to take two wins and try to take ourselves up the ladder and finish probably in fifth or sixth position. That would be a good Christmas gift for the team as well,” Chase said.

“This is the last series, and if we want to make any strides in terms of going up the table, it has to be in this series,” he added.

Asked what had gone wrong during the current Championship cycle, Chase pointed to the batting unit’s failure to post competitive totals in the second innings, despite producing strong first-innings scores.

“I think as a batting unit, we've been able to put up some big first-innings scores, over 300 runs. And I think that adds a lot of scoreboard pressure on the other team,” he said.

“But I think if we can consistently do it not only in the first innings but also in the second innings, and if we can get a decent total in the second innings with the bowling line-up that we have, I think we'll be challenging teams and winning more games,” he concluded.
