Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is eyeing his Big Bash League (BBL) debut with Melbourne Renegades after applying to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in Australia's premier domestic T20 competition.

BCB president Tamim Iqbal confirmed on Monday that Mustafizur and leg-spinner Rishad Hossain had submitted applications seeking clearance for the upcoming BBL season. He made the disclosure while speaking to reporters during the player auction for the domestic tournament D3.

Mustafizur's expected absence from a significant part of D3 limited interest in the left-arm pacer at the auction. He will be available only for the ODI format, with Seven Rings Cement securing his services for 70 lakh virtual points.

The BBL, scheduled to run through December and January, overlaps with the T20 phase of D3. If the BCB approves his request, Mustafizur will miss the domestic tournament's T20 matches to take part in the Australian competition.

The 31-year-old has stepped away from red-ball cricket and is no longer part of Bangladesh's domestic first-class setup. Overseas franchise leagues have therefore become an important option for him to continue playing competitive white-ball cricket.

Known for his cutters and variations, Mustafizur has experience in several franchise competitions around the world. A BBL stint would provide him with another opportunity to test his skills in Australian conditions and add a new chapter to his T20 career.

However, his participation in the tournament remains subject to the BCB's approval. The board will have to consider his request alongside the demands of the domestic cricket calendar.

Mustafizur's application also reflects the growing challenge of balancing domestic commitments with opportunities in overseas franchise leagues. As more Bangladesh players seek contracts abroad, overlapping schedules are becoming an important consideration for both cricketers and the board.

For Mustafizur, approval would open the door to his first BBL appearance in the colours of the Melbourne Renegades.
