Mahmood Jamal, a three-term elected director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and a prominent sports organiser from Rajshahi, died of a cardiac arrest on Saturday. He was 74.
Jamal made significant contributions to sports administration in northern Bangladesh, serving for many years as general secretary of the Rajshahi Divisional Sports Association. He began his journey under the guidance of legendary sports organiser Zafar Imam before establishing himself as a national-level sports administrator.
He first joined the BCB board in 2001 as Rajshahi Division’s representative councillor but left office after the board’s activities were suspended by an order in August 2002.
Jamal returned as an elected member of the BCB executive committee for the 2005-07 period. He was elected again in 2008 and served as a director until October 2012.
Beyond cricket, he also served on the executive committee of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), contributing to the country’s wider sporting administration.
In a condolence message, the BCB expressed deep sorrow over Jamal’s death and extended its heartfelt sympathies to his bereaved family and relatives.
