Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, a member of the Chattogram Division Under-18 cricket team, died in an ambulance while being taken to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.
Hridoy had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), a form of blood cancer. Despite efforts to arrange better treatment in the capital, the young cricketer died before reaching his destination.
Recognised as a promising talent in Chattogram's age-group cricket, Hridoy had received financial assistance from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to support his treatment.
In July, the BCB provided Tk500,000 for his medical expenses, while the Ministry of Youth and Sports extended an equal amount in assistance.
Despite the financial support and efforts to secure treatment, Hridoy could not be saved. His death has left the country's cricket community mourning the loss of a young talent.
