Hasan Mahmud struck a hat-trick against Afghanistan as Bangladesh tightened their grip on the one-off Test, with the pacer crediting his disciplined line and length and the movement off the pitch for his success.
Hasan said he noticed considerable movement from the surface when he began bowling in the morning and decided to target the top of off stump, make the most of the new ball and force the batters to play.
“I wanted to make the most of the new ball and get the batters to play as much as possible. I tried to bowl straight, and Alhamdulillah, I was successful,” Hasan said.
The right-arm pacer admitted he had not specifically planned to take a hat-trick but remained confident that sticking to his process would bring results. After managing fewer wickets in the first innings, he returned determined to maintain his line and length.
“No, I didn't have that kind of plan. But I felt that if I continued to follow my process, I could get results,” he said.
Hasan also praised his bowling partnership with Ebadot Hossain, saying the pair made an early impact and helped Bangladesh bowl Afghanistan out in the first session.
“Our bowling partnership was very good from the morning. Ebadot made a good start, and then I bowled from the other end. We bowled them out in the first session, which I think was a big plus for us,” he said.
With Bangladesh building a healthy lead, Hasan said the team would look to add more runs and set Afghanistan a challenging target on the following day.
“Inshallah, tomorrow we will try to score as many more runs as possible and set them a big target,” he added.
